Rose of the Shires app for iPhone and iPad

This app lets you delve in to the historic landscapes of Northamptonshire.
Over the past 700 years much of Northamptonshire’s landscape has been transformed but, through the work of the ‘Rose of the Shires’ project, it is now possible to discover how it would have looked in previous centuries. Using historic documents, aerial photography and the results of field research the landscapes of two key points in time have been recreated. From the medieval period (c1300) through to the early 18th century many places saw significant change, others remained virtually unaltered until the 19th century. The project worked in 6 areas of the county to reveal how, and why, these changes took place and to establish what features still survive today.
